THE OBJECTIVE OF PROFINIC

Profinic's objective is to improve the lives of the rural population in
Jinotega, Nicaragua by providing them with knowledge that promotes
initiative and independence. This is accomplished by educating the local
villagers giving them the skills and the technical knowledge to be self
sufficient. The benefits of the Profinic scheme are environmental, economic
and social advancement in addition to a mutual cultural exchange.

MAIN PROJECTS

The Supply of Fresh Drinking Water
With the collective help of many local individuals and the support of
Profinic 8,500 people now have access to clean drinking water thus providing
one of life's basic needs for good health. Manual participation by the
locals, digging trenches and laying pipelines, is a prerequisite giving the
village people ownership of each project. Upon completion of these water
projects the operation and maintenance then becomes the responsibility of
the local villagers.

SEWING COURSES
Another initiative of Profinic is in the tuition of clothes making. Profinic
provides the sewing machines and along with the help of two sewing teachers
the women  are taught pattern making and clothes construction giving them
the confidence to not only clothe their own families but to also sell their
garments at the local market for profit, providing another pathway for
income.

SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE
Profinic was also instrumental in providing the  Sardinal village with a new
schoolhouse. The previous one was nothing more than a simple shack which had
totally outlived the needs of students and the local community. Since then
another three schoolhouses have been built in other remote areas.
